But for those who are willing to give classic Hanna-Barbera duo try, this is a good entry point, since so many children know WIZARD OF OZ. There are families for whom TOM and JERRY are strictly on the do-not-watch list, and it's doubtful that this addition to their filmography will make any difference. TOM and JERRY still fight, as always, but they're also partners in this adaptation, and as such, slapstick is slightly less over-top than it often is in cartoon. OF course, Dorothy isn't in the story as much as TOM and JERRY, but when she sing, she soar, and it makes the whole production much more palatable. Yanofsky has an amazing voice, which-while not Judy Garland's brand OF perfection-sparkles with the same depth and vulnerability.

As iffy idea as it might originally seem, this crossover is actually quite entertaining. As they catch up with Dorothy and her three new friends, TOM and JERRY find themselves having to put their differences aside to save everyone from the evil Wicked Witch OF West, so they can all get back home to Kansas. TOM and JERRY follow Dorothy, who has skipped ahead on Yellow Brick Road, and find their own young friend, Tuffy, who'd like gift OF height from WIZARD. They're swept into OZ right along with their friends Dorothy and Toto after the twister drops her house on Wicked Witch OF East. The story OF TOM and JERRY & WIZARD OF OZ is basically the same as the original WIZARD OF OZ, with the legendary cat-AND-mouse duo along for the ride. But because TOM and JERRY have to band together to rescue Dorothy, there's slightly less antagonism than in their other cartoons-plus more musical numbers to lighten the mood. Like all TOM and JERRY cartoons, you can expect loads of slapstick, cartoonish violence, here with a bit of added creepiness thanks to Wicked Witch OF West and her flying monkeys.

Parents need to know that this crossover movie between TOM and JERRY and WIZARD OF OZ plops the classic Hanna-Barbera duo into the story of Dorothy's landing over rainbow. The Witch melts in a much longer death scene.

In one seat-jumping moment, TOM is swallowed by an alligator. Usually TOM is crushed by falling objects, falls off ledges, or gets hit all over his body. TOM and JERRY are famous for their cartoonish violence, and slapstick is in nearly every scene.

TOM, JERRY, and munchkin mouse take spiked mace, wrench, baseball bat, and pistol as they walk toward Witch's lair. Monkeys grabbed Dorothy and most OF her friends. In conclusion, while a little rushed and a little too short, Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz is a very entertaining movie.Wicked Witch OF West and her flying monkeys are always creepy, whether live-action or animate. The voice acting is strong, especially from Grey DeLisle who is wonderful as Dorothy. Tom and Jerry are a delight, Dorothy is cute while never cloying, Scarecrow, Lion and TinMan are great fun and the Wicked Witch is menacing and cunning. The songs and music are wonderful, tuneful and makes you want to sing along, the writing is funny and touching often and the story is still the timeless classic you know and love albeit with a clever Tom and Jerry twist. The animation is great with fluid backgrounds, lively colours and appealing character designs that reminded me strongly of MGM Hanna Barbera. I loved this though, with Tom and Jerry and a truly timeless story to work from it couldn't fail in my eyes. I liked Nutcracker Tale and Shiver Me Whiskers, but disliked Fast and the Furry. The direct-to-video movies have been rather hit and miss for me. I love Tom and Jerry, their cartoons were the epitome of my childhood.
